Carnico Foods is a locally owned and operated, USDA-inspected meat processing facility that was created at the beginning of 2022. Carnico will serve as a processing, packaging, private labeling, co-packing, and product development facility that was born out of a desire to serve the vast demand from local farms and retail/wholesale businesses from all around southern Michigan. Carnico will have the ability to smoke meats and will be set up with a state-of-the art drying/climatic room to produce specialty sausages and cured meats.
History
Carnico Foods LLC was created at the beginning of 2022 and was created to fulfill an overwhelming need for USDA-inspected facilities within the meat processing industry. Its majority owners were farmers first (Ferry Farms in Litchfield, MI) who then, along with a neighboring farmer, expanded into Ferry Farms Wholesale (FFW). FFW sells and distributes a variety of products including snack sticks, jerky, charcuterie meats, bacon, ground beef/burger patties, hot dogs, and beer brats featuring beer made from four different breweries located around the state of Michigan, among other things. As FFW grew its business, a consistent roadblock continued to be availability of USDA-inspected processing and co-packing. From that barrier, Carnico was born.
